The Hampton Virginia Current

The first 501(c)(3) non-profit, USA Swimming Club based in Hampton, Virginia, HVA Current launched in 2023. The coaching staff and board of directors believe in meeting each swimmer where they are – and helping them achieve their personal best, whether they are multi-sport athletes or full-time swimmers.

The HVA Current wants to provide an exciting, new opportunity for residents who have too often been overlooked and underserved. We strive to allow families to form a community around the pool, deepen connections within our community and provide more opportunities to develop swimming competence and the characteristics necessary to succeed both in life and in the pool.

We are a non-profit club, run by an elected Board of Directors which meets each month. All members of the HVA Current are welcome at each meeting and encouraged to be involved in team planning and activities. All HVA Current competitions and activities are supported by the volunteer efforts of our parents and families.

Logo & Team Colors

Each wave portion of the logo represents a training level (Ripples, Waves, Riptides & Tsunamis)

Orange, Teal, Turquoise & White.

Orange is an energetic, playful color – representing friendship, excitement, and optimism.

Teal and Turquoise symbolize our desire to live peaceful lives, create and sustain a supportive team environment, and our desire to always act with integrity

White represents inclusivity – as white light contains all the colors of the spectrum – and seeks new beginnings and a desire to learn.

Team Philosophy

We believe an integrated team is a cohesive team – that swimmers of every ability can teach and learn from one another under the guidance and mentorship of coaches who encourage, support, and provide appropriate challenges and promote the normalization of excellence.

The HVA Current seeks to provide the best possible coaches who support our mission and our philosophy. Our coaches are dedicated to continuing their education about technical instruction, motivational practices, and childhood development. To further this commitment, our team invests in its coaches’ continued education through both USA Swimming and American Swimming Coaches Association classes, special clinics and trainings. Our coaching team strives to work as one unit to support and help one another become the very best – so we can offer our swimmers the very best in return. Our lead coaches are committed to following the American Development Model for developing swimmers.
